Abstract

The present investigation intends to demonstrate results with the study of the relationship between two substantive components linked to educational persistence in the first year at Universidad de la República (hereinafter, Udelar), framed in a project research more broad. Studies on educational persistence identified two types of factors in the trajectory of the individuals which has an impact on their educational continuity. The first refers to conditions generated before the individual enters higher education, while the second is related to the academic and social experiences the individual lives once entering a university. The first type of factors affects the persistence directly and also indirectly through its incidence in the second type of factors. In this case, we study the relationship between the variables of the first type of factors and the career that the individual is studying as an indicator of the second type of factors, since the careers present particular institutional characteristics. From a logistic regression model, significant differences were identified in the choice of career according to its duration.
